Interested in joining the Ramsey Lab?

Undergraduate Students:

UConn undergraduate students interested in biochemistry, biophysics, and innate immunity who would like to gain research experience in the lab should contact Dr. Ramsey via email and provide answers to the following questions:

  • What do you find interesting about the Ramsey Lab?
  • In which research area of the Ramsey Lab would you be interested in working?
  • What are two scientific questions you have about your area of interest?
  • Would you be able to work 10-12 hours in the lab each week for credit?
  • Are you interested in working during the summer (for pay)?
  • What are your plans after graduation (get a job, go to graduate school or med school, etc.)?

For undergraduates seeking to complete a research thesis in the Ramsey Lab, you must be able to commit to working at least 10 hours a week in the laboratory for at least three consecutive semesters.

Graduate Students:

Prospective students who are interested in completing their thesis research in the Ramsey Lab must fit the following criteria:

  1. Be enrolled (or accepted into) one of the programs within the Molecular and Cellular Biology Department Graduate Program.
  2. Become familiar with the research being conducted in the Ramsey Lab by checking out our Research page.
  3. Schedule a pre-rotation meeting with Dr. Ramsey to discuss what projects are active in the lab. NOTE: This meeting is required before being able to rotate. Until this pre-rotation meeting is held, students will not have permission to rotate in the Ramsey Lab.

For PhD students, the Director of Graduate Research and Education decides on rotation assignments based on the students' preference. For Masters students, the rotations may begin at any time during the fall and should last at least 6 weeks (or as discussed in the pre-rotation meeting). Please don't hesitate to email Dr. Ramsey or come by her office (BPB 208) if you have any questions!

Postdoctoral Fellows:

The Ramsey Lab is always seeking highly motivated, independent, academia-bound applicants who has obtained or are close to obtaining their Ph.D. Please send the following as a single PDF to Dr. Ramsey via email to formally apply:

  1. A current CV, which should include:
    1. A list of publications (published, on BioRxiv, and in preparation).
    2. Grants or awards that have been applied for, even if they were not funded.
    3. A list of techniques in which you are proficient and those you are interested in learning.
    4. At least three professional references. References will only been contacted after the applicant is notified.
  2. A short summary of your current Ph.D. research (1-2 paragraphs).
  3. A short proposal of what type of research program you would like to build in the Ramsey Lab (1-2 paragraphs).
  4. A brief statement about your academic professional goals.

Incomplete applications will not be considered so please ensure all four components are part of your PDF file. If the application passes initial review, the applicant will be notified and requests for official references will be sent out. Feel free to contact Dr. Ramsey if you have questions.
